Birthdays and Brownies - Slutty Brownie Recipe

I’m no baker, but every two years I like to make one of my favourite desserts: slutty brownies.

I’d rather it were called something else (“slutty” is unnecessary), but oh well.

It was my mom’s birthday on Monday, and I decided to bake her some brownies. My mom, like me, is very picky about her brownies. She doesn’t like store-bought ones, they have to be homemade. At first I was going to bake regular brownies, but then I thought, why not make things a bit more interesting?

Slutty brownies consists of three layers: the brownie layer, the Oreo layer and the cookie dough layer. I don’t know the recipe by heart, so I did a bit of research to get the following:

brownie ingredients

Cookie Dough Layer

  • 1 egg

  • 7 tbsp unsalted butter

  • 1 cup chocolate chips

  • 1 cup plus 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 2 tbsp white sugar

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  1. Cream the butter, brown sugar and white sugar in a bowl until mixture is fluffy and light.

  2. Beat the egg inside the bowl.

  3. Add the vanilla extract.

  4. In another bowl, whisk the flour, salt and baking soda together.

  5. Add the flour mixture into the first bowl.

  6. Put the chocolate chips in a separate bowl, add 1tbsp of flour and mix. When done, add this to the first bowl mixture (not exactly sure why I needed to mix flour with the chocolate chips to be very honest, but that’s what my 17-year-old sister said to do so I obeyed. She’s the baker in the house).

  7. Keep the mixture in the fridge whilst you prepare the brownie layer.

Brownie Layer

Melt the butter and chocolate chips in a pot and mix. Once done, mix the cocoa powder in.

  1. Whisk the eggs, white sugar, salt and vanilla extract in a bowl.

  2. Add the chocolate mixture to the bowl. Set aside.

Once you’re done preparing both layers, here’s how you add them all into the baking pan:

  1. Add the cookie dough layer first.

  2. Add as many Oreos as you can on top of the cookie dough layer. Lay them side by side, don’t overlap.

  3. Add the brownie layer on top.

Yay! Now it’s time to put it in the oven. You might have noticed, I didn’t say to preheat the oven in the beginning. Fun fact: I never preheat the oven. It always takes me longer to follow the instructions than anticipated (distractions such as watching TV by the side or listening to music and dancing as I’m baking), and I’d rather not burn my house down keeping the oven on for such a long time. BUT if you’re a normal person and not like me, preheat the oven in the beginning to 350˚F. Either way, that’s the temperature you should bake on.

Bake for 40 minutes. Use a toothpick to test if the brownies are done. If they are, the toothpick should come out clean. If they aren’t done, leave them in for a few more minutes.

And there you have it! My (the Internet’s) slutty brownie recipe. Try it out and let me know what you think.

In terms of appearance, they didn’t come out how I wanted them to, but they tasted pretty good and that’s the important thing!
